How Do You Find Your Purpose After Moving Abroad?

So many people struggle with this question and it creates a lot of frustration and confusion that ultimately keeps them from finding it. The general idea of what purpose is lies in what you do or what you have to offer to the outside world. This idea gives most people the anxiety around having to know exactly what that is.

The dictionary definitions of purpose is as follows;

Noun; the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.

Verb; have as one's intention or objective.

Written Exercise

What is your definition of purpose? Take a moment and think about it. What does purpose mean to you and how does it look? How does it make you feel? I encourage you to write this down on paper.

When was there a time that you felt you were living your purpose? What was it and remember how it made you feel. If you can't think of a time, explore why that is?

Changing your idea of purpose

What if you thought that purpose is NOT something that you can obtain from the outside? What if you thought that your purpose isn't what you do but rather how you feel about something?

Maybe all you have to do is shift your view on what purpose really is so that you can make the space for inviting it into your heart and life. To know that purpose is simply a great bound of energy and determination of what you love to do can release you from the anxiety and stress of thinking your purpose is some “thing”.

Purpose is what gives you the excitement and energy to get out of bed everyday. It's the love and joy in the things you do that brings you a sense of fulfillment. It has nothing to do with your job, volunteer work, talents etc... Those are simply the things that you do to cultivate your joy. Your purpose is always with you regardless of what you're doing, even if you are doing something you don't necessarily like.

Purpose is living your best life to its fullest potential through love and joy. There's no need to struggle and exert your energy to the external world in hopes that your purpose will hit you in the face. It's already inside of you waiting for YOU to uncover it! Your purpose actually relies on you to find joy in the energies that you put out in the world not the other way around.

Doing all things with joy in your heart and living that joy to the best of your ability. Practicing to stay present. Paying attention to when joy leaves your heart and being able to cultivate joy back in so that you can be fulfilled and at peace.

If this shift in your mindset is something that you want to dive deeper into, I encourage you to read more about purpose through mindfulness practice. Follow the authors, leaders and practitioners who can offer you more insight and clarity. People like Kute Blackson, Michael Beckwith, Tara Brach, and Dr. Wayne Dyer just to name a few!
