How to Re-Invent Yourself after Relocation

Okay, yes, I'm going to go back onto this subject because I know there are so many expats out there (or people in general) who are trying to figure out what they're next move is especially where this pandemic is concerned. If you haven't figured it out by now, have no fear, there's no time better than the present.

Take a moment to consider what 're-invent yourself' means to you. Does it mean a transition around your work or are you forced to start over, through this pandemic and need to find something new and creative to generate income? Are you trying to sort out a new fitness routine and feel like you've been eating worse than ever before? Or are you finding it frustrating around the new dynamics in the house and struggling with relationships?

Whatever the case might be for you, I encourage you first to center yourself and find peace with the fact that you just don't know what to do right now. It's OK! Take some deep breaths and be gentle with yourself. I trust that you'll find your way around the challenges but really cultivating the self compassion and care for yourself is still the need at the end of the day. You need to dive deep and find the joy in all that you are faced with. Throwing your hands up in surrender is one step, but sitting down and going within is the bigger most important step to re-inventing yourself.

So where do you need to start? What is the biggest challenge right now that you're needing to change or create? Take some time with this and grab your laptop to make some notes. Write down the one thing that needs to change because if it doesn't it will cost you XYZ. Now instead of trying to solve this dilemma right then and there, I encourage you to think about what YOU bring to that challenge. How do you show up in all of this and where can you change any negative or unserving behavior or thoughts around it? This is where you begin to look in the mirror and begin the honesty with yourself because if you can't be honest with yourself then what's the point in trying to change it?

With that said, you need to drop any judgments and blame you might be holding onto around these challenges. Whether that is on yourself or someone else. LET IT GO! Before you can start making any changes in your life, you need to scope the inner beliefs and clear the slate for all that is concerned (mainly your happiness!) This can take some time. Having to re-evaluate your beliefs is important because many times our beliefs are based around someone else's. Yes, that's right. Consider a belief you have around relationships. Why do you think you uphold this belief? Has your past, childhood experiences, or beliefs of parents/siblings, society or some other influence cause you to believe something that you might need to change? The idea around doing this exercise is to make sure that your old beliefs are still truly your own and not something that you have been conditioned into believing. Make sense?

Again, it's important to stay centered around your beliefs and thoughts. Be kind when re-evaluating them and release the need to place blame or judgment. Once you determine what your true beliefs are around your dilemma then you can move forward with a lighter heart and more compassion.

You can now start to work on a solution that will serve you, and others, in a mindful direction. So what does that look like to you? How would you like to see this change unfold and is there anything you need to shift, personally, to find a balance?

This is a great start to strengthening your self awareness and cultivating the positive shifts you desire. Through mindful and honest communication, empathy and understanding you will start to create balance and happiness not only for yourself but for everyone around you.

Make the decision today to create that change!
